Accelerated Job Search Program
What if you could shorten your job search? The average job seeker takes about 9 months to find employment. However, with a concentrated approach to your job search, you can find the job you want and need in significantly less time.
The Accelerated Job Search program run by local employment and self-reliance centers can help you find a job more quickly. To accomplish this, the program focuses on many effective daily activities to maximize your opportunities to meet and engage with potential employers. The main goal of the program is to help you secure the position you want as quickly as possible. Accelerated Job Search puts you in control of your job search.
How Does Accelerated Job Search Work?
The Accelerated Job Search program helps you start each day off right, refine your job search, network, set and report on goals, and focus on the most effective job-search techniques. It saves you from the discouraging ordeal of simply sitting in front of a computer each day trying to find job leads. Each activity in the program is designed to help build your self-confidence so you are better poised to find, interview for, and secure a job.
The program is designed to equip the active job seeker with the necessary tools to quickly obtain a job. As a participant in the program, you will be taught essential daily activities that most job seekers do not use and will be given the opportunity to practice them. You will have mentors who can help you in your efforts and who will increase your job search accountability. Participating in this program will provide you with methods to help you more quickly find the job that is right for you.
Who Can Participate in the Program?
Accelerated Job Search is a vigorous approach to finding a job. For it to be effective, you need to be fully committed. Space in the program is limited, so only those who are ready to meet the requirements are accepted.
To be successful in the program, you must:
1. Attend the Career Workshop.
2. Agree to follow the Accelerated Job Search program.
3. Know the job field and position you are looking for.
4. Have the required skills and be qualified for the desired job.
5. Be able to describe your desired job to others.
Once you meet these standards, staff members at the center will reach out to your bishop to discuss how to get you involved in the program. This may include discussing any possible barriers that may keep you from being successful. The bishop and center staff will help you identify a mentor who can assist you in your search. Prior to beginning the program, you and the bishop will review and commit to the expectations of the program. If for any reason you feel you may not be able to fully commit to the program at this time, center staff will advise you to wait until you are able to do so and may assist you in becoming ready.
What Should I Expect?
During the program you are required to attend a daily meeting beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting for 60 to 90 minutes. Each day, you will be energized as you connect with a group of other job seekers and complete essential job-search activities. You will be encouraged to dress professionally each day to be prepared for networking and interview opportunities.
The typical daily meeting will include the following:
Opening with a thought and prayer
Receiving training on job-search topics (interviewing, creating a networking profile, using online resources, and so on)
Reporting (both verbally and in writing) on job-search activities from the previous day
Goal setting and action planning
Additional coaching, as needed
You will be held accountable each morning to report on how well you fulfilled the objectives of the 15-10-2 approach the previous day. It will be your full-time job to seek out at least 15 new resources, make 10 new contacts, and carry out 2 face-to-face meetings every day. As you accomplish these goals each day, you will increase your self-confidence and make noticeable progress in your job search.
